- Park well clear of traffic; on a grade, turn the wheels so the truck would roll away from the travelled lane if it moved.
- Apply the parking (spring) brakes and, where appropriate, chock the wheels.
- Switch on hazard lights if any part of the truck could be hard to see.
- Never leave a heavy vehicle relying on the service brakes alone to hold it.
