Driver fatigue is a major cause of heavy-truck collisions, so a truck driver's working time is regulated. The core daily limits are:
- A maximum of 13 hours of driving in a day.
- Driving must stop once the driver reaches 14 hours of on-duty time in a day.
- At least 10 hours off-duty in each day.
- Cycle limits cap total on-duty time: under a 7-day cycle, no driving after 70 on-duty hours; under a 14-day cycle, no driving after 120 on-duty hours.
- The driver keeps a daily log recording duty-status changes, times, locations and odometer readings.
