A school bus stops at every railway crossing.
- Stop at least five metres (16.5 feet) from the nearest rail.
- Open the bus door and look and listen for an approaching train.
- Do not change gears while the bus is on the tracks, a missed shift could stall the bus on the crossing.
- Do not use the flashing lights or stop arm here, those are for loading and unloading passengers, not railway crossings.
